Summing it all up
Summing it all up
SUMMARY
- Opacity is managed by the alpha channel, and enables us to hide more or less what's behind our foreground element
- However, because the alpha has no effect on the foreground, its color might go too far. If you want the color to be purely transparent where the alpha is black, the solution is to limit it using a Premult node
- Don't forget that premulting the image will alter its edges, and therefore any color operation needs to happen upstream of that step
- Watch out for incoming elements that you didn't create yourself, and check whether they are already premultiplied or not, as the steps required are different
