Elements already Premulted
Elements already Premulted
SUMMARY
- Watch out for elements that come your way already premulted. They're identifiable if they have 'nice' edges, aka an edge that gradually goes to dark, regardless of its softness
- You can still grade it, you simply need to Unpremult the image before your grade, then Premult again
- Cancelling the premultiplication will restore the image's true color on the edges, enabling you to modify said colors as you wish, then premulting again to wrap up the process
- Please group your grades together between a single sandwich of Unpremult/Premult. Avoid stacking multiple sandwiches in different places
- Don't forget that some elements might come your way NOT premulted. They're identifiable because of their 'ugly' edges, that go from the color to pure black from a single pixel to the next one. In that case, don't unpremult it since it wasn't premulted in the first place. Simply grade it as you wish, and premult it
