Deconstructed Merge

SUMMARY

      • Disclaimer: The explanation below doesn't describe the exact mathematical operation running behind-the-scenes, but is an accurate representation, only slightly modified to better serve the pedagogy

      • A Merge Over acts in two independent steps:

      • - The alpha of the A input punches a hole in the background

      • - The foreground color is added to the background color

      • Therefore the foreground is always visible whether it has an alpha or not. Only the visibility of the background through the foreground varies
