Frequently asked questions

Here are some common questions I've had so far.

My name is Florian Matet, I am a 2D supervisor working in Montreal, meaning that I am responsible for all 2D departments within a show. I handle primarily compositing of course, but also rotoscopy, paint as well as digital matte painting.

I also teach at a Belgian university in Mons, with a mix of on-premise instruction and remote support.

I have gone through big and small studios, from feature films to episodic or even advertising work, and consistently observed some discomfort, both from studios and artists, not really knowing how to improve on the situation.

This website is an attempt at doing a little bit of positive work for the industry, helping out individuals with accessible education and working alongside studios to provide connection and insight to their needs.

I offer lots of exercises and footage, all prepared for you in OpenEXR files and creative briefings, shot with a cinema camera here.

Additionally, I would like to point out that the best footage you can work with is you own!

Sure, the technical quality is not likely to be as good as a professional Arri Alexa camera, but who cares? Shooting your own plates will show dedication, will train you to use a camera, whether small or big, and will give your demoreel a unique look that nobody else can have. I have some courses about photography and video recording as well to help you out getting started on that.

Seriously, please give it a go, I cannot stress enough how much advantage it will give you when looking for a job, and who knows, you might even enjoy it!

In the meantime, if you are not willing to pay at all for footage, here are a few free resources I could find for you:

Despite not having any ads on the website, I have heard of a couple issues with AdGuard on Firefox for some reason. I would advise disabling it for this site, or switching to a different browser, even though this solution is a bit radical.

I will dive into this issue and do my best to solve it in the near future.

Indeed!
There is no cookie bar on VFXcited simply because I am not gathering any cookie or personal information that is beyond the strict functionality of the site (like the login cookie for example, so that you don't have to connect again every time you come here).

There is no personal tracking whatsoever, no advertisement and the only analytics going on are ran by Plausible, a GDPR-compliant company based in Europe.

If you want to know more, feel free to roam through the Terms and conditions of VFXcited. Despite being written by a lawyer and therefore difficult to fully grasp, they have the benefit of explaining it all in vivid details (and it's a legal requirement on my side anyway).
